Lake Alfred Lions Club
Every years the members get together to bag candy and snacks for several schools in the area. This is passed out on the last day of school before the Christmas break. The Fire Department participates in this event and makes sure to sound the horn and siren as they pull into the school. Two of the schools are for the mentally challenged and they so enjoy seeing Santa get off the fire truck to hand them a bag of treats. Other members caravan in their cars behind the firetruck to help with the treats. Over the years we changed from candy to more cookies and crackers due to the request of several of the schools.
In August, 2014 we started the providing food packs for children at one of the local schools for the weekend. We have changed the name to Lions Feeding Hungry Students - LFHS. We are feeding approximately 25 each week.
Tuesday mornings a group of Lions can be found at the Lions Club sorting used eye glasses. These glasses are brought in from all over the district and other parts of the state. They are sorted, washed, read, processed and boxed to be sent to the warehouse in Ocoee for Project Right To Sight. Lions from other clubs and interested volunteers are welcome to come sort. Everyone is invited to participate. Call Lion Rita at 863-412-5745 or Lion Maggiy at 863-521-4152.
The Lake Alfred Lions Club has been providing an Easter Egg Hunt for the children in the area since 1946. In past years real eggs were used, but now plastic filled eggs are used. Prizes are given to the 4 age categories (Ages 0 - 10). You always need to be there before the event starts as any member that hides the eggs will tell you "we spent 2 hours hiding the eggs and they found them in 2 minutes."
